Warm food and water for the ferals this morning (not as iced as yesterday) they were really nutcase fly the walls ferals but I have been stroking three of them for a few weeks now, two feral placements didn't materialise and we were disappointed. Now there is one huge ball of hair - he aint cold in minus7 coats are so thick its amazing. Strangest thing happened this morning, i was stroking his back as usual trying to work my way under tummy and as if am going to lift, now normally that would be a step to far for him but this morning he rolled ( yes rolled) and let me stroke his tummy in fact he encouraged me to purring away he wasn't pleased to see the food he was actually pleased to see me! I love Feral Cats! now new dilemma of course he cant go to feral home but can i find someone to believe he is a love bunny once he knows them:-) wish i could get picture of him but if camera is in my hadn he bolts as its a foriegn object :-(

In our care over Christmas our Volunteers don't stop feeding and caring just because its Christmas day , Litter trays still need emptying and cats still need feeding !

When long time cat lover Barbara Bates won a competition on line for her cat story she knew exactly what she was going to do with the winnings, Barbara converted her winnings into cat food and shared it among her favourite charities among which Wear Valley & Darlington Cats Protection benefited. Thank you Barbara!!

Our Secret Santa Barbara Bates donated some of her competition winnings, which she converted to cat food, to our branch. Many Thanks Barbara and Ruth too

All these cat in care if not homed will likely be with us over Christmas, each day we have to find funds for food, litter and vet care as well as warmth and shelter- alas money doesn't grow on trees. These are the lucky cats we have many more waiting for our help ! we have some other older cats but am awaiting pics for those.

Ian and Clare Midgley presented the Wear Valley and Darlington Cats Protection with a cheque for £250:00 in memory of their son Steven Ralph Midgley. Steven died suddenly on September 5th 2011, aged 31. He was an accomplished musician and song writer, but his first love was for his cat Kia. She came from the Cats Protection in Shildon in 2000. Throughout Steven's periods of ill health, Kia was a close companion and would cry if Steven was not at home.

A couple of years ago years ago, Steven decided that Kia needed a companion and brought in Nellie, who was rehomed from the local vets. He called the cats his 'girls' and his 'daughters' and they gave the whole family joy and affection. Now that Steven has gone, Ian and Clare are comforted by the presence of his cats, and are delighted to be able to support other cats and kittens that aren't as secure as Nellie and Kia.

All these adorable kittens are going to be looking for homes.

Guinness is a very loving 3 year old cat. He loves having his tummy
tickled and is very affectionate and bright young man.He would love to
be rehomed with his sister Kiera.

My name is Keira and I am quite shy at first but very loving once I
know you.I would love to be rehomed with my brother Guinness as we
have always been together and he gives me confidence. We have always
been indoor cats but could adapt to trips outside in a safe area. I
have a lovely beauty spot on my cheek like Marilyn Monroe! I love
being stroked and playing with my flying goldfish toy.I am only 3years
old and sometimes play like a kitten!

Got mum trapped and spayed this morning, she tested clear for FELV 7 FIV last kitten now at ladies house with medicine, other 5 seen by vet one not expected to make it but i have told it nothing is dying on my watch so got fluids and simicat down it overnight and so far still breathing so where there is life there is hope. Other four, two are ok on antibiotics and one like deathly one is on fluids but it is bright so no imediate danger, vet fell in love with one which was one of the ones eating though still poorly and I said "yes" she can have that one:-) so she is giving that one a home. So I am left with the four here, 2 eating, one dehydrated but taking fluids and one I am fighting life into with all the tricks i have up my sleeve :-) wish me luck

I have kitten napped these five from a shed in an allotment, woman allotment holder knows i have em but owner of cat doesn't (yet) and she reckons he wont be happy, have no signed accept form and am in big trouble. Have told her if he turns nasty say i will report him to RSPCA, council, you name it. Woman going to try and get mum and we will spay her, she is feral, lots of bigger kittens there too and mum cats which he keeps in his garden, nice place but poorly kittens and to many unneutered cats. Left message saying we available to help and that to act now as who knows when we run out of funds etc, also told if Environment health or RSPCA go in the lot will be put down. All rest look healthy just this litter of six to much for mum cat, left one kitten which eyes are fine with mum as woman is going to take home and keep once weaned and its a safe shed where it is. tut tut shouldnt be impulsive :-

Today has been like a lot of other days spent trapping feral kittens, 7 from one location with more to come and of course the adults 7/8 of which will be neutered. All this is a huge drain on the Charity resources and is so preventable if only people were responsible. Inbreeding has caused lots of health issues in these kittens including eye problems, a colony which will have started with one uneutered stray!

A feral Cat is a descendant of a domesticated cat that has returned to the wild.

It is distinguishably from a stray cat, which is a pet cat that has been lost or abandoned, while feral cats are born in the wild; the offspring of a stray cat can be considered feral if born in the wild.

Feral cats are distinct from stray cats or lost pets in their attitude toward humans; whereas a stray or lost cat may approach humans and can be handled easily, feral cats typically resist prolonged human contact.

A domestic cat that has reverted to wild, unsocialized behavior, or a descendent of such a cat. Feral cats live without significant human contact and they are not socialized to interact with humans. Their behavior is generally wary, fearful or aggressive depending on the situation. Feral cats are most frequently found in urban and suburban areas, though breeding populations of feral cats can occur anywhere.
